I have always been fascinated by the blending of different cultures, which gives rise to new forms—termed syncretic or eclectic—that, to me, represent a new, unconventional wonder.
I recall my fascination with the exotic and mysterious pseudo-Arabic script in the halos of certain Renaissance paintings centred on a quintessential figure of Christian culture, yet infused with a reference to Arab culture.
Or the incredible syncretic forms such as Greek or Roman temples transformed into Christian churches, or Indo-Islamic architecture, fusing two cultures into a new language.
Encounters, the fragrance
I wanted to capture this obsession of mine in Encounters, through a combination of two iconic ingredients from East and West, Iris and Oudh, a moment of contact from which a new creation emerges.
You will find the sophisticated refinement of iris butter, with its soft and mysterious powder; a material that develops in the soil to then produce the most lyrical of flowers.
And you will find Oudh, a material born from an infection of Aquilaria trees, which then produces one of the most fascinating and complex scents in the range of perfumery ingredients.
